Cllr Shahana Najmi, Leader of Llanelli Town Council this evening did a monumental U-turn – yesterday Cllr Najmi helped to vote down a motion in County Council which would have provided school transport for the affected children that were left stranded last September with no-means of getting to school.
With unbridled hypocrisy the Tory, Plaid and New Independent ruling group put forward a motion to write to Welsh Government and Carmarthenshire County Council to ask for help for the children and this after voting down the motion the day before that would have provided genuine help for the affected families.
Feeling were running high with the Labour Group of councillors who were astounded by the hypocrisy in the room. The meeting quickly became contentious when Cllr Lemon was pulled up by Labour councillors for talking about a different motion than the one being discussed as a diversionary tactic.
Cllr Prosser who put the motion forward to county council to reinstate the lost bus services said, “I’m disgusted and extremely disappointed with the Tory, Plaid, Independent ruling group on town council. We have been working with the parents, Nia Griffith MP, Lee Waters AM, the Welsh Government, Secretary of State for Wales and the Dept of Transport to try and find a solution for the last six months.
Yesterday I presented a fully costed proposal that would have given the children transport to school while this was being sorted out but members of the ruling group, namely Cllr Najmi, Cllr Jeff Edmunds and Cllr Louvain Roberts didn’t support it, yet today with unbridled hypocrisy attempted to jump on the bandwagon and their solution to the whole problem is to write a letter – well my question to them is where have you been for the last six months?”
