Sports enthusiast Selaine Saxby, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Llanelli, visited behind the scenes at Parc y Scarlets with 2010 candidate Chris Salmon, who is now the Police and Crime Commissioner for Dyfed-Powys Police.
Selaine was keen to see the business side of Scarlets and how its position as a leading tourist attraction in Llanelli is working with other attractions like Llanelly House in town to bring more visitors to Llanelli.
Chris and Selaine were accompanied by Nia Lloyd, who has worked at Scarlets for the last 3 years. Nia explained that Parc y Scarlets are hoping to increase visitor numbers during 2015 and are open for visitors on a Wednesday and Friday afternoon. Tours are priced £6.50 for adults and £4.50 for children and include a look at memorabilia from the 1972 Scarlets win against the All Blacks as well as a trip to the locker room and gym.
Selaine, a qualified personal trainer herself was delighted to see the gym, although commented: “The team’s leg muscles are clearly a lot stronger than mine looking at the weights on the machines – even after all the miles I have walked canvassing and delivering leaflets!”
Chris Salmon then accompanied Selaine into Llanelli canvassing and said of the afternoon: “Always a warm welcome in a great town. Takes me back to 2010…”
