Carmarthenshire County Council is inviting residents to take part in an engagement exercise to help with the future of recycling in the county. As part of the waste collection changes coming in 2026, the Council is seeking input and feedback on the types of containers that will be used for separating recyclables at home.
These changes aim to improve recycling rates and efficiency by introducing separate containers for different materials. This approach will help reduce contamination, increase the range of materials that can be collected, and make recycling easier and more effective for households.
To ensure the chosen containers suit the needs of residents, Council officers will be available at various Hwb locations throughout the county. Residents will have the opportunity to review and provide feedback on the proposed polypropylene recycling bags, which are the preferred option due to their versatility, cost-effectiveness, and practicality for kerbside use.

These sessions provide an opportunity for residents to view the containers, raise any concerns, and suggest improvements to the options being considered. Feedback from the public will help the Council prepare literature, and communication materials that facilitate the implementation of these waste changes across the authority . We encourage all residents to attend their nearest Hwb engagement event and ensure their views are heard. Your input will help us create a recycling system that works for everyone.

Never mind another system. How about collecting our glass!!
We will probably end up having to take our own rubbish/recycling to the tip at this rate. How we are supposed to do this if the ‘powers that be’ want to stop us driving!!! 🤬🤬🤬

I’d say the consultation opportunities are appalling. 3 sessions each in both Carmarthen and Llanelli all on the same day of the week for each session. Makes it very limiting to comment – or is that what the Council is hoping for?

You see these bags in the Swansea City area already. They are absolutely useless once emptied as they are easily affected by wind and blow all over the place

Jacqui Honeybee they use thus system of bags in pembrokeshire and everyone living there hates them, as they rip, get wet and si uf you have got somewhere out side to store them from getting blown about you have to keep them in the house 🤔. Wheelie bins are the way for waste stops bags being blown away and anlmals ripping then. One drity and one recycling. Works in mist places i lived and worked.
Quite a few people here have mentioned they dont have a side entrance/back door which would rule out wheelie bins.😞Can imagine they are a nightmare with breaking down, the rats that are around from the lack of black bag collections will also chew through these !! 🙄Another stupid decision from the council
Peter William Dunkley my thoughts exactly. I went to a consultation and raised this very point, was given a survey to complete which I did but, don’t think anything I write down will even be read or actioned just ignored.!

I have no back lane. This means all my rubbish has to be brought through the house to go at front. As I am a disabled pensioner this is getting more difficult every year also I spend time at least two e a week picking up rubbish which blows up my road. This is normally after blue bags have been collected . I can’t move wheelie bins through my kirchen,lounge and hall. Between washing tins and cartons and sorting rubbish. Taking to tip what they don’t collect, I am starting to wonder why I am not on the patrols of ccc. Cleaning weeds,, cleaning gutters and picking up others people’s rubbish carelessly disgusted on the road. I really don’t know what this town is coming too. It is like cesspit.
Denise Jayne Same here. Have to walk from out the back, through to kitchen, living room and hall to take mine out as I’m living in a middle terraced house.
And would love to know which prat designed and approved the black, glass collection boxes with four holes in each corner. My hall carpet had a drenching the first and last time I used it. Been taking them to the tip ever since.

Delyth Morris same here love. Mid terrace. Back injury so take my glass to tip. Move everything very carefully but make loads of journeys. Do my 10k steps just putting rubbish out. No thought for people of llanelli. Just let’s make it easy for the boys. My uncle was a ‘dustman’ years ago. Now that was what you called bloody hard work.
Where am I supposed to put them. My dogs already think the blue bags are their toyboxes. I have to carry thru the house as it is.

Something that doesn’t end up strewn across the road and creating hazards for drivers would be nice. Something seagulls and assorted other wildlife can’t shred. Collections more frequently. Will never understand what was wrong with the old wheelie bin system
They will blow away in the wind surely, not everyone is at home to bring them in immediately, they have to work, and the bin men won’t put a brick on them I don’t suppose.🙄
