Carmarthenshire County Council has set schoolchildren a challenge whilst they are staying at home.
So far 70 schools have signed up to A Million Actif Minutes which encourages children to keep fit and healthy whilst schools remain closed and at the same time win sports equipment for their school.
The challenge is being driven by the council’s Actif Communities team and will run for four weeks until March or when the million minutes have been achieved.
Primary and secondary schools across the county have a chance to win £500 of sports kit and children can choose their own activity.
Each school will have an individual target based on their number of pupils and.
Once the school’s target has been reached they will go into the prize draw.
The council’s executive board member responsible for sport, Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths said: “This is a very exciting challenge and a fun way to keep us active whilst we are learning from home in these unprecedented times. It is also a perfect opportunity to help schools benefit for extra sports equipment. It is important that we continue to keep active as it helps us stay fit, be healthier and more confident. The life lessons sports teach children go far beyond the physical benefits.”
