2020 is the 25th Anniversary of the formation of Côr Curiad ladies choir and the ladies are marking the occasion with a variety of events. The first of these is Côr Curiad’s Young Musician Competition commencing on 28th March with the Grand Final on Saturday 4th April 2020.
The ladies wondered how to mark this special Anniversary and how they could thank people of Llanelli for their support over the years. Finally they decided to encourage and support the next generation of local musicians.
Hence the Côr Curiad Young Musician Competition was developed. Open to youngsters living in Llanelli and the surrounding areas and aged between 11 and 18 years, talented vocalists and instrumentalists were encouraged to enter and compete for £1000+ worth of prizes.
The Competition has two categories a) Vocal and b) Instrumental. The winners in each category receiving a £500 prize to help towards their future musical career.
Preliminary auditions are being held at the Athenaeum Room of Llanelli Library on Saturday 28th March 2020. These auditions are “Closed” auditions i.e. (no audience except for a maximum of 4 supporters) and will be judged by independent adjudicators. The adjudicators will decide on the finalists who will be invited to perform on stage alongside Côr Curiad at Ffwrnes Theatre on Saturday 4th April 2020.
Performing on stage at Ffwrnes Theatre will be a big thrill for the finalists! The evening will be one of wonderful music making and fun featuring Côr Curiad under the baton of Musical Director Alex Esney and accompanied by pianist Craig Oldham but the real stars of the evening will be the young finalists!
At the final on 4th April Independent Judges will have the unenviable task of deciding winners and runners up and the pleasure of awarding the prizes. The Compere for the evening is Swansea Sound legend (and Côr Curiad favourite) Kevin Johns MBE.
The ladies ask local people to support this concert and give these young finalists the opportunity to show off their talent. These are the musicians of the future – be at the beginning of their careers and when they become famous be able to say “I was there at the start!”
Tickets are available from Ffwrnes Theatre Box office and are £10 for Adults, £5 for young people aged 11 to 16 with children under the age of 11 going free. To comply with Theatre Regulations everyone in the audience will require a ticket even the children’s “Free” ticket. Theatre Box office will advise.
