With an increase in yellow box junction monitoring from councils putting drivers at risk of fines, Richard Evans, head of technical services at webuyanycar comments:

“With councils recently being given more powers to issue penalty charge notices to drivers, there may be an increase in moving traffic offences including yellow box fines. Our research found that 1 in 25 drivers have received a penalty for stopping at a yellow box junction.

“Whilst road fines can be a result of genuine mistakes, there are some rules around box junctions to be aware of. Drivers are only allowed to enter a yellow box junction if the exit is clear and there is enough space ahead to avoid stopping. There are only two reasons drivers can stop in the yellow box which include turning right and being prevented by oncoming traffic, and stopping for other vehicles who want to turn right.

“Drivers caught not following the rules could receive a penalty charge notice of up to £130 so they should remain alert to stay safe. Our guide on yellow box junction rules will help drivers understand how to get around safely whilst avoiding fines.”
