Llanelli Town Council has formally co-opted Garry Rees-Andrews to fill the vacant seat representing the Glanymor Ward.
Garry, who is a resident of Glanymor and also runs The New Cornish Arms within the ward, will serve as an Independent Councillor, bringing his experience as a local resident and business owner to the Town Council.

His co-option follows the submission of a formal written expression of interest, which was circulated and accepted by members of the Council given that no political party came forward to trigger a by-election in the Ward.
Commenting on the co-option, Council Leader Councillor Sean Rees said:
“Garry has a strong connection to the local community and a first-hand understanding of the area.
“He will bring valuable experience from running a business, alongside his knowledge of living and working in Glanymor, where he is widely respected.
“I believe Garry will make a positive contribution to this Council and will take the responsibilities of the role seriously, representing residents with commitment and integrity.”
Garry added:
“I am delighted to have been co-opted onto Llanelli Town Council. Having lived in the ward and run a business here, I understand the community and the issues that matter to local people. I want to use my position to listen to residents, make sure their views are heard and work constructively to achieve positive outcomes.
“I am looking forward to working with fellow councillors, community organisations, local businesses and residents to help make Llanelli an even better place to live, work and visit.”
Garry’s appointment adds further strength to the Independent administration now running the Council. Since Independent Councillors took control of Llanelli Town Council, a number of changes have been introduced with the aim of improving transparency, accountability, and value for money for local taxpayers.
These include the removal of Councillor expenses saving Llanelli Town taxpayers up to £30,000, introducing recording of Council meetings so residents can see and hear the decisions being made on their behalf and continued investment in parks, play areas, community centres and green spaces. The Council is also placing greater emphasis on local communities having a meaningful say in decisions affecting their neighbourhoods.
The Independent-led administration has said its approach is solely focused on putting decisions back into the hands of local communities and removing party politics to ensure the interests of Llanelli residents always come first.
