The Llanelli LGBTQ+ Group have been busy organising events, social meet-ups, educational awareness training sessions and more over the past month. This has included a Pride Themed Wellbeing Walk along the Millenium Coastal Path, around Sandy Water Park and back to North Dock. We were delighted to welcome the Mayoral Party who joined us for the evening walk (photo below). Members of the group had a chance to talk to each other as well as the Mayoral Party about their experiences within the LGBTQ+ community and our allies.

As well as this we have launched an adult social group as well as a fully inclusive Youth Group “BeYOUth” too. The next adult social meetup is on the 7th July and the next youth group session is on the 14th July. You can book on these by searching for the group on Eventbrite or by email sarah@lgbtqplus.org.uk Spaces are limited but are free of charge. If you are having issues sorting transport then please don’t hesitate to let us know and we can see if we can help.

A couple of our members were honoured to take part in a photography project in the last couple of weeks. Joe Kelland (photographer) says this about his project “This body of work, set in South Wales, aims to give LGBTQ+ people a chance to reclaim and fill spaces. With so many negative experiences of glances, comments and more, the project takes control of this attention and utilises it to showcase the beauty in queer appearances. Each individual has a personal story that they bring to the portraiture. This is a project that is both a celebration and a stance.”

A few of Joe’s recent images are displayed below. If you want to know more about this project please look at his website joekelland.com or on his instagram account (jkellandphoto) where behind the scenes photos and snippets will also be displayed.

Llanelli LGBTQ+ Support Group is more than just support, we are about visibility, raising awareness, education, activities, safe spaces and so much more!
