Some people discover their talents and passions early in life. Lillie Jones is one of those people.
Lillie was just 7 years old when she met her horse, Flower, for a two week trial together. After this, Flower was put into the horse sales at Llanybydder, and after a week the decision was made for Flower to settle into her new home with Lillie.
The bond of trust and companionship they formed was instant.
After a few months, it came to light that Flower was in foal, and would give birth to a foal that was named Paddy; a name given to honour the vet who saved the young foal’s life after he ran through barbed wire fencing, ripping his chest open. After this incident, Paddy needed daily medical care that Flower would only trust Lillie to put on.
Their bond grew stronger over the years, which led to the self-taught Lillie to begin competing against some of Wales’ best horse show jumpers.
In their first competition, Lillie and Flower — who are now 14 and 12, respectively — have now qualified for the Stoneleigh Horse Show on August 7th, and then the Hickstead Horse Show on September 15th and 16th.
Their strong bond has not gone unnoticed by many respected spectators, and the synergy between the pair has led them to just become Reserved Champion for Carmarthenshire Showjumping. Many look to what they’ll do next with great interest.
