Hey Vegan Food of Ferryside in Carmarthenshire won 3 prestigious awards at the annual British Pie Awards.
The artisan vegan bakery won a silver award for their leek, stuffing and cranberry pie, and also for their Moroccan style aubergine, date and chickpea pie, while their chilli non carne pie scooped a bronze award.
The British Pie Awards is an annual event held in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. This year saw 800 hopeful entries — including 70 vegan pies. Vegan pies were in fact the largest single category, showing the rise in interest in a plant-based diet.
Jason Dickinson of Hey Vegan Food said:
“We are overwhelmed to win 3 awards in our first time of entering this major competition. While our customers are our most important judges, it’s nice to get this recognition too.
“It’s especially gratifying after the turmoil of the last 18 months and lockdowns.
“It was pleasing to see so many other vegan entries – but not surprising. We have seen a large increase in the number of our customers locally too. Many of them aren’t actually vegan — they are trying to reduce their meat consumption — or just like the pies!”
