Network Rail has successfully installed the main span for the footbridge which will provide step-free access between the two platforms at Llanelli station.
Contractors AmcoGiffen installed the span overnight on Saturday, while the station was closed to passengers, with a temporary road closure of Great Western Crescent in place to allow access to the site.

The process of lifting and placing the span took two hours, and it followed recent work to install the landings and stairs on both platforms.
The next milestone at Llanelli station will see the lift shafts installed in the coming weeks as the project gathers pace.

Theo Smith, Network Rail Wales and Borders lead portfolio manager, said: “We’re really pleased to see the work progressing well at Llanelli station with the successful installation of the bridge span, following on from the recent installation of the staircases and landings.
“I’d like to thank passengers and residents for their patience while we continue making these important improvements. I look forward to seeing the completion of this work, which will provide a fully accessible station and more comfortable journeys for all rail users.”
Llanelli is one of six stations in Wales and Borders becoming step-free and more accessible, with the improvements being funded by the Department for Transport as part of the UK Government’s Access for All programme.
I disagree… Was a usability study actually carried out before it’s construction… Why not just put a ramp in on either platform it’s probably quicker than using the bridge
Matt Calaghan, unless you’ve used one of these, you don’t know… I have they are wheelchair friendly but only if one is being pushed.. This station doesn’t warent one of these due to the frequency of trains and it’s current accessability status… Ticket machines both sides, ease of access to platforms… It is a waste of money

Serves a purpose,but the old Bridge was far more attractive.
It’s an eye sore could they not at least made it the same shape/ colour as the old, the toilets and waiting room are rarely open, so how often will lifts be Woking and will they just be vandalised and used as a toilet or hangout for teenagers and others

The noise they make all night is horrific!!!! It’s bad enough their machines are extremely loud but also have to put up with them shouting to each other and laughing being idiots while trying to comfort my child due to the extreme noises!!! Why can’t they do the works during the day instead of all night!!! Patience??!! We have no choice but to put up with it!!!

I have no doubt the undesirables that roam Station road will use the lifts to defecate, urinate and jack up like they did at Neath Station and Port Talbot station when they were installed there new, so give it a few weeks the lifts will be out of use

Why is it so tall?..Was this bridge needed..Access to both platforms can be accessed by crossing the level crossing.It looks awful has no sympathy for the stunning Victorian buildings. And what is with Architects who think Square and rectangles make for attractive buildings just look at Pentre -Awell..(apologies for the spelling)

Such an improvement from the grotty old station tired looking station that we have currently.
As a wheelchair user I am very happy to see this let’s hope selfish people don’t vandalise them
