After the major success of last year’s Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, WWE returned to the UK with another Premium Live Event. This time the more established Money in the Bank as it emanated from the O2 Arena in London. And much as it was before, the event has proven to be a huge success for the company which only serves to further justify WWE’s recent willingness to go outside of America more than ever when combining this with the success of Backlash in Puerto Rico and, despite the controversy still surrounding them, the Saudi shows.
Money in the Bank is most known for, as the name suggests the Money in the Bank ladder match, where a set of superstars all fight to be the first to successfully grab the Money in the Bank briefcase for themselves. Both the men and women have their own version of this match and whoever obtains the briefcase earns the right to cash it in for a title match of their choosing whenever and wherever they want at sometime in the next year, this year’s matches were won by Iyo Sky & Damien Priest. Iyo was no doubt the fan favourite to win the match, however Damien Priest’s victory shocked many as many were clawing for LA Knight to have his moment as he’s become arguably the most popular name in the company over the last few months.
Also on the show we saw things such as Cody Rhodes overcoming the “threat” of Dominik Mysterio, Shayna Bazler betraying her tag partner Ronda Rousey and then walking out of the match practically handing their tag titles to the team of Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. We also saw Seth Rollins defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Balor with the slight assist of some miscommunication within the Judgement Day as Damien Priest, who’d earlier won the briefcase came to ringside seemingly considering a cash in and causing an unintentional distraction for Balor, giving Seth an easy opportunity to win.
We also saw some exciting returns on the night. Such as a returning Drew McIntyre who we had not seen since Wrestlemania coming back to stake his claim for Gunther’s Intercontinental Championship in front of a native UK crowd. Also, in a surprise no one saw coming, John Cena also made a shock appearance to, in his words, try and convince WWE to bring Wrestlemania to London by giving the crowd a chance to demonstrate just how electric that crowd would be.
And in the main event, we saw the Bloodline Civil War as the Usos teamed up to take on Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa, after Jey made his choice weeks ago to stand with his brother and finally break free of The Bloodline. And in that match, shockingly Roman Reigns was the man to take the pinfall as Jey won the match for the Usos.Similar to how Jey was the first person to ever pin Roman Reigns in a match back in 2013 in Roman’s Shield days. And it is also the first time in over 3 years that Roman has been pinned, the last time it had happened was on TLC in 2019 where he lost to Baron Corbin of all people, which is crazy to think given how different the last 3 years have gone for them each respectfully.
