Plaid Cymru will mark Living Wage week, which takes place between Monday 11 November to Saturday 17 November 2019, by encouraging as many employers as possible to take part in the week and become Living Wage Accredited.
Plaid Cymru Leader Adam Price AM said:
“It is great to see Living Wage accredited employers around Wales being celebrated for their commitment to fair wages. Plaid Cymru is a Living Wage organisation and we are pleased to be one of the 224 employers in Wales committed to ending in-work poverty.”
Plaid Cymru Shadow Minister for Economy and Finance Rhun ap Iorwerth commented:
“We are pleased that Cardiff is the first major urban area in the UK to become a Living Wage City. We need to celebrate the accredited Living Wage employers in Cardiff and throughout the rest of Wales for their commitment to their workers. A fair day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay.”
Mid and West AM Helen Mary Jones said:
“I’ve tabled a statement of opinion in the Senedd to celebrate the 224 Living Wage accredited employers in Wales. I’m looking forward to the event in Kidwelly with living wage employer Burns Pet Food to highlight the issue at the beginning of the week.
It is regrettable that workers in Wales still have the lowest take-home pay in the UK. I’ll be quizzing the Welsh Government about how we can encourage local authorities, and others with responsibility for public money, to become Living Wage accredited.”
