South Wales #foodbankconvoy
On Saturday 11th July a few members of Porthcawl Truck Gathering visited Marina fields in Burry Port to drop off a donation of £500 for Pembrey and Burry Port Foodbank, with the money able to go towards buying much needed items for the Foodbank to help feed the families they cover.
Here is what a spokesperson for the event said about the donation and event that took place.
“We of the Porthcawl Truck Gathering normally run an annual truck event in Porthcawl.”
“But out of the doom of the pandemic we were approached by our great friend and HGV driver Billy Diamond from Midlands to organise a South Wales route.”
“On Monday Bank Holiday with a total of 100 trucks we ran our route between Port Abraham services and Magor Services. We only had three weeks to organise this event and it came with many obstacles with calling in many favours. To raise awareness to helping Food Banks around the country. All drivers donated £20 to attend and giving up a precious day off.”
“We could not have achieved it without the attendance of South Wales Police, who escorted the Truck run which covered the amazing 70 mile each way trip. Thank you South Wales Police force.”
“The total collected in Wales is £2,700 of which was added to the total pot which included 5 other road runs which all started at different locations at the same time 14:00 Bank Holiday Monday. Charity acc balance was an amazing £23,974.17. That’s over 2000 trucks all around the country collecting for our Foodbanks. Our share from that is £4,500 to be shared around South Wales of £500 donations to selected Foodbanks.”
