Tributes have been pouring in for former Llanelli Rural Councillor T James (Jim) Jones following the news of his recent demise. Llanelli Rural Council clerk, Mark Galbraith said: “Jim was elected to the council on May 14, 1991 and stood down from the council on May 5, 2022 at the local government elections, owing to ill health.

“Jim devoted his life to voluntary public service with the council for and unbroken period of 31 years, which is quite a remarkable achievement by any standard.
“During his time with the council he was elected chairman on two occasions.

“The first occasion was during the 2000/2001 civic year and more recently during the 2013/2014 civic year.
Mr Galbraith added: “Jim had a remarkable knack of getting things done for the communities in the Glyn ward.

“He was a very likeable and generous character who had a warm personality, who put all his efforts into serving the community to the best of his ability.

“This was exemplified with him steadfastly supporting the local schools in his electoral ward or by taking on and advocating the multitude of issues brought to his door by local residents.

“He had time for everyone and did his utmost to help all those who turned to him for help.

“His attitude was if he could help you in any capacity then he certainly would. His generosity and dedication to whatever the cause knew no bounds.

“The council wishes to extend its sincere condolences to his family at this sad and difficult time.”

“He will be greatly missed, condolences to all his family and friends.”
