Llanelli Community Partnership is delighted to report that phase two of their Connect 2021 project has been successfully delivered.
The Connect 2021 Project has been created in direct response to issues highlighted by young people and schools in the Llanelli Town area. During consultation with Schools and Young People, it was noted that following the pandemic, there is a real need for young people to find a way to reconnect, to each other, their schools, the environment, the community and the wider world.
Working in conjunction with Llanelli Town Council, Carmarthenshire Youth Support Service and Dyfed Archaeological Trust as our key delivery partner. Year 6 pupils (10- and 11-year-olds) from 5 local schools have been taking part in classroom sessions focusing on citizenship and local democracy.
They even had a taster of voting in a classroom ballot. The pupils in year 6 are the “transition” year, who will soon be moving on to Secondary school in September. The project aims to help these individuals to build connections that will make this transition easier.
Feedback from the schools was tremendous, with head teachers and class teachers commenting on the value of the sessions and the relevance of the sessions fitting in with the wider curriculum and education of these young people.
Towards the end of the school year over 100 young people took part in a competition to design the logo for the project. After some tough decisions by the judging panel the winner was Lily-Rose King at Stebonheath School with the two runners-up Lucy Williams and Jacob Holmes both from Ysgol Pen Rhos. Before the end of term, Paolo Piana, Chair of Llanelli Community Partnership visited the schools to present the winner and runners up with their prizes, including a framed certificate, gift vouchers and Community Partnership pin badges.

“With the funding we have secured from the National Lottery’s Community Fund we have been able to deliver this exciting project involving over 250 pupils from local schools. The positive impact on the young people has been there for all to see.
“Huge thanks to all the young people, school staff, Llanelli Town Council and our delivery partner Dyfed Archaeological Trust for all the hard work that has gone into the project during this phase.”
The next phase will resume after the school holidays.
