AN URGENT charity appeal has been launched to help fund nine pupils at Llanelli’s much-loved special school Ysgol Heol Goffa go skiing in Italy in March.
The school’s remarkable skiing programme was launched over 30 years ago and has led to phenomenal confidence-building in pupils as well as thrills and successes at Special Olympics, and British and World Winter Games.
Ysgol Heol Goffa supports children and young people aged 3-19 with a wide range of additional learning needs, including profound and multiple learning needs, severe learning delay, autism, physical disabilities and complex learning difficulties.
A Go Fund Me page – backed by the school – on the social media platform Facebook states: ‘We believe every child deserves the chance to thrive – and sometimes, that means heading for the mountains!
‘We’re fundraising to help nine pupils, aged 14-19 take part in a life-changing ski trip to Folgaria, Italy, in March 2026.’
The trip is aimed at boosting confidence and developing skills, but above all creating lasting memories.
The Go Fund Me page adds: ‘Our pupils face more barriers than most when it comes to school trips.
‘The additional support, equipment.and travel arrangements required can make it difficult for families to afford.’
‘You can help these young people ex[perience an opportunity that will shape their futures.’
The appeal states that success will mean:
* All nine pupils attend the trip and have an unforgettable experience.
* The pupils gain increased confidence, independence and social skills.
* Positive feedback from pupils, families, and staff.
* Continued engagements in skiing and inclusive sport.
* Stronger foundations for lifelong learning and opportunity.
The appeal adds: ‘Your support will empower pupils with additional learning needs to take part in something extraordinary.
‘You’ll be helping them build confidence, fitness, friendships, and independence – and opening doors to future achievements.’
Llanelli town councillor Shaun Greaney, whose Lliedi ward includes Ysgol Heol Goffa, said: ‘Oppportunity knocks for the community of Llanelli once again to throw its wonderful warmth and spirit around Ysgol Heol Goffa and support the children to have the time of their lives on an educational trip proven to have massive benefits for the youngsters.
‘Come on Llanelli people – let’s not let this chance pass for these pupils.
‘We know they’re waiting for a new school, and I, for one, could not cope with the issues the families face.
‘Please give what you can for a remarkably good cause.’
