A five-month-old puppy who was reportedly beaten with a shovel in January 2024, after begging for food on the streets of Baku, Azerbaijan, is now in Wales, and is looking for a loving family to give him all the love he’s never had.
The five-month-old crossbreed was found barely alive with a broken leg. Thankfully, a local animal rescue in Azerbaijan, Desperate Dogs of Azerbaijan, heard about the emaciated puppy limping amongst garbage, and stepped in, taking the puppy to a vet so he could receive emergency veterinary treatment. They named the puppy Zach, and he was immediately placed on an intravenous drip and his leg was plastercasted to immobilise it.
Zach was taken to the Desperate Dogs of Azerbaijan Shelter where he made a full recovery.
In February 2024, a UK supporter of Desperate Dogs of Azerbaijan spotted Zach on a video and asked to adopt him. Following the adopter passing a home check and reference checks, Zach was flown to England just before Christmas, at the end of 2024. Unfortunately, just 12 hours later his adoption failed.
Since then, Zach has received basic obedience training and is currently residing at Lizzie’s Barn Sanctuary in South Wales. Desperate Dogs of Azerbaijan’s UK Fundraising and Rehoming Coordinator, Debbie Davies said “Zach was a typical big boisterous puppy when he first came over to the UK in December last year. He is a really sweet boy who is very affectionate and loves to play. Unfortunately, humans haven’t always treated Zach well and he took time to initially adjust to family life. However, he’s made fantastic progress with his obedience training and is now ready to find his forever home.”.
Zach is now 19 months old and has been neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Zach can live with other dogs and teenagers. He is looking for a home with owners who are willing to keep up his basic obedience training. He can live anywhere in the UK, but since Zach is currently residing in South Wales, any meet and greets would need to be in the South Wales area.
