Cardiff Bay betrays Wales. For proof, look no further than a Plaid Cymru/Labour debate last week on the illegal migrant camp in Penally.
Ignoring the wishes of local people, who were not even consulted about housing up to 250 illegal migrants in Penally, Plaid and Labour condemned all opposition to the camp and labelled local activists as “far right” and “racist”.
I have been flooded with letters, emails and phone calls from concerned residents in Penally and wider Pembrokeshire.
It is my job to represent my constituents, and call out the sickening virtue signalling from Plaid, Labour and now the Conservatives.
Angela Burns, the Conservative Senedd Member for South Pembrokeshire, joined the chorus of “Woke” leftists in Cardiff Bay.
She accused me and local people of being “intolerant” and turning the Penally crisis into a “political football”. Yet, it is the collapse of her own party’s immigration policy and the fiasco of the UK Government’s border controls that has produced the migrant crisis.
45% of asylum claims are rejected. Of those, 60% remain in the country, costing the British taxpayer £400 million a year in accommodation; with the total cost of the asylum system approaching £1 billion annually. Does anyone still truly believe that the Tories will “take back control” of our borders?
The left, which increasingly includes the Welsh Conservatives, accuse anyone who speaks out against their cosy consensus as “extremist”, “far right” or “racist”.
They claim the legitimate concerns of local people have been hijacked by the “far right” and they weaponise their language to silence dissenters from their agenda.
During the debate, I was subjected to the usual offensive personal abuse. But it does not stop there. For the majority of people in the real world, who do not share the enthusiasm for mass-immigration of Senedd politicians, the Political Establishment deploy the same tactics on their social media platforms and through their placard waving activists.
It is a deliberate attempt to silence opposition. Leftists believe that those who disagree with them are not entitled to have an opinion, no matter how factual or heartfelt.
The co-submitters of the Penally debate, Plaid’s Leanne Wood and Labour’s Joyce Watson, a Senedd Member for the people of Penally, love to get personal.
They do not want reasoned debate and are deaf to the opinions from local people. I will not be intimidated into silence.
Labour & Plaid have declared Wales a “Nation of Sanctuary”, refusing to acknowledge the difference between ‘illegal economic migrants’ and genuine ‘refugees’.
Their irresponsible rhetoric actively encourages people to make the perilous journey across the English Channel!
We should always honour Britain’s long tradition of welcoming genuine refugees and asylum seekers. People who have fled persecution and conflict should, rightly, be offered refuge in a safe country.
However, the Penally migrants have mostly travelled from France, a safe country not a war-torn dictatorship.
UKIP is the only opposition, not just to illegal migrant camps, but to unlimited migration.
Even the Brexit Party’s Senedd Members were missing in action, choosing to abstain on the Penally vote, betraying the promises they made when first elected.
The people of Penally deserve to be heard.
UKIP is unafraid to stand with them and the majority in Wales who demand an end mass-immigration. I will continue to be the voice of my concerned constituents.
