Don’t be surprised when you see boarding going up soon around the 5 Tys with artist’s impression of how the new development might look, as the Tyisha project starts to take shape.
Tyisha Ward is going to be transformed with 9.3million of council money which has been allocated for the regeneration. Covid-19 has held the project back but the steering group which includes Cllrs Suzy Curry and Andre McPherson is up and running and raring to go and is now excitingly looking for a partner, essentially to take the project on and do the building work.
Cllr Suzy Curry said, “Our aim is to transform Tyisha and turn it into a place where families want to live and work. The plan is to create a vibrant new community which will give the area – including Station Road – a complete overhaul, this will include knocking buildings down and starting from scratch.
“We need to keep the pressure up and drive the project forward. It’s essential to get a partner in place ASAP and get on with it. We all know what the problems are, Andre and I are thrilled to be part of the solution.”
Cllr Andre McPherson said, “Action will also be taken to improve the environment and residents health and wellbeing – after 3 years of campaigning we managed to get funding of over £100,000 and have delivered the new children’s play park and dog park on Ann Street which is currently being built.
“We are sure that the new playground and dog walking area will be a magnificent addition to life in Tyisha. It will be very much appreciated by local children and their families who have waited for so long to have a park to call their own. It goes to show what can be achieved with vision and determination with the aim of making Tyisha a better place to live in. This is the first of many improvements to Tyisha.”
Marc Howells, Head Teacher of Bigyn School said, “The children helped design the play park and they’re really excited to see it finished. As soon as covid-19 restrictions are lifted we will use it regularly, it’s a great addition to the area. We have promised that part of Friday afternoons will be spent in the park as a reward for all the children’s hard work and they can’t wait.”
