Cari Evans, a resident of Llanelli, has taken a unique opportunity to shave her head to raise funds for charity.

Cariy was diagnosed with an Acoustic Neuroma (a benign brain tumor) in February of 2020, immediately prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This resulted in appointment delays with specialists, however, as the tumor has grown and presents a potential risk, Cari’s doctors have decided the best course of action is to remove it.

Cari’s surgery will be taking place in a week’s time, and requires shaving a small patch of hair around her left ear. But Cari, in a display of great compassion, decided rather than stop at that, she’d have her whole head shaved of her 22-inch long hair, grown over four years, to donate it to The Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides real hair wigs to children and young people due to cancer or other illnesses.

Cari has also been raising funds for The Little Princess Trust, as well as Tŷ Nant Cat Sanctuary, with the funds she raises to be split evenly between both charities. Within seven hours of opening her JustGiving page on February 22nd this year, she had raised £400, and reached the initial target of £500 in 24 hours. Not one to rest on her laurels, Cari increased the target to £750, easily passing that to achieve £948 in about 48 hours.

By the time of April 1st, the day she would shave her hair, she had raised over £2000, and after streaming herself having her head shaved, support is ongoing. Cari intends to keep the fundraising page open until the 24th of April, the time at which she’ll return home from her surgery.

Between a combination of JustGiving fundraising and cash donations, Cari has presently raised a total of £2575, and is hopeful to reach her new goal of £3000 by the time of her surgery in a week’s time. Cari said:

“I’m hoping to raise as much money for these charities, as covid has affected them severely. It will also give me an opportunity to make a positive impact from a negative experience.”
