A local choir, which originally came together for one night only almost 14 years ago, has donated the proceeds from its latest show to a chemotherapy unit in Llanelli.
The Mothers and Daughters choir, from Llanelli, held a Christmas concert in November 2025. Money raised from the event, which totalled £1,000, was donated to the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Philip Hospital.
The choir first sang together for a specific event almost 14 years ago, but liked it so much they have been going strong ever since.
“It was meant to be a ‘one night only’ event, but we loved it and continued to sing together,” said Jacqueline Wain, one of the members of the choir. “Over the years we have raised thousands of pounds for Welsh charities.”
She added: “Each year, we choose a charity or good cause for our Christmas Concert. For 2025’s Christmas Concert we decided to raise money for the Chemotherapy Day Unit in Prince Phillip Hospital as we are all, at one time in our lives, touched by cancer.
“It’s the best thing we do each year. We raised £1,000 in one evening. I expected to raise between £700 and £800, so all in all, it was a rewarding night.”
The choir chose songs to fit their theme of ‘Together at Christmas’, which included Ring in the Season from Olaf’s Frozen Adventure and That Christmas Morning Feeling from the film Spirited. And Briony Wain, Jacqueline’s daughter, hosted a quiz on the night too.
Kath Watkins, Senior Sister, Chemotherapy Day Unit, said: “On behalf of the staff and patients at the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Philip Hospital, I would like to thank Mothers and Daughters for their fundraising efforts resulting a very generous donation of £1,000.
“We are always looking at ways to improve the environment and improve the way we care for patients within the Chemotherapy Day Unit. Please be assured that this money will go towards this improvement. Thank you.”
