
New Welsh Speakers
A new year’s resolution to speak more Welsh or to go out and socialise? Come and join our chatting sessions! New and fluent speakers are welcome in each.
Coffi a Clonc is an opportunity to get together to chat and socialise over a cup of coffee every Thursday morning at 10.30am on Zoom. This activity is suitable for learners or fluent speakers. To receive the link contact ymholiad@mgsg.cymru
Menter co-organises Paned a Sgwrs sessions at Caffi’r Atom, every Tuesday from 10-11am. An opportunity to chat and socialise over a cup of tea.
Paned a Phapur sessions are held at the Wool Museum, Drefach Velindre on Wednesdays every two weeks. And Shwmae and Siarad sessions are held once a month on Friday mornings at the Cwtsh Coffi Cafe, the old football club, Newcastle Emlyn between 10:30-11:30. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Story Sessions:
Our story sessions in Carmarthen and St Clears continue every fortnight. In Carmarthen on Mondays at Carmarthen Library at 10:30am and at St Clears Library, Y Gât at 1:30pm on Thursdays. Join us in these story sessions. Contact gwyneth@mgsg.cymru to register or for further information.
Drama Club:
Menter and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru offer two drama clubs for children in the area, Clwb Joio Drama for years 1-3 on Wednesday evenings from 5-5.45pm and for years 4-6 from 6-7pm. The clubs are held at the Studio, Lyric Theatre, Carmarthen. An opportunity for children to learn skills, gain confidence and enjoy. Volunteering:
Over the past year, a group of young people from the area have been volunteering at Menter’s events, such as drama clubs, Gŵyl Canol Dre, Gŵyl Fach Newy’, Ras Fach y Wiber and various other sessions and Menter Gorllewin Sir Gâr is very grateful for their work and time.
The experience of volunteering locally is more than giving something back to the community, but also an opportunity to gain confidence, develop general transferable skills as well as world of work skills. Menter’s volunteering opportunities are based on participation that demonstrates best practice and offers an opportunity to take responsibility and make decisions. Bwncath, Dros Dro a Gelert Gig:
On Friday 2nd February 2024 a gig will be held at UWTSD Student’s Union, Carmarthen. The gig will be an opportunity for us to celebrate Welsh Music Day in style! The gig will be an opportunity to hear Gelert, a young band from Pembrokeshire; Dros Dro, a young band whose members are pupils or former pupils from Bro Myrddin and Maes y Gwendraeth and of course, the famous and popular band, Bwncath. Story, Movement and Messy Play:
As part of the Gŵyl y Daffodil (Daffodil Festival) celebrations in Carmarthen, Menter, Yr Atom and Cymraeg i Blant will hold a Story, Movement and Messy Play session in Yr Atom, Carmarthen on the 15th of February 2024. The session will be held from 10:30am to 12:30 p.m. The session will be suitable for children up to 4 years of age and will cost £2 per child. There are limited numbers so you must register at helo@yratom.cymru
Half Term History Fun:
On the 12th of February Menter and Mewn Cymeriad will present ‘Sioe Llywelyn – Ein Tywysog Olaf?’ (The Llywelyn Show – Our Last Prince?) At 10.30 in St Peter’s Hall. To register, or for more information please contact betsan@mgsg.cymru Entry £4 for children and adults free.
Activities at the Welsh Wool Museum, Drefach-Velindre:
A number of activities will be held at the Wool Museum jointly between Menter and the Museum over the coming months. Story and Rhyme will be at 1:30pm on Thursday 29th February 2024, and again on 21st March 2024. To register contact nia@mgsg.cymru
There will be a Craft Session at the Museum from 10:30 to 12:30 on the 16th of February 2024 and then there will be the Museum’s Fun Festival on the 2nd of March 2024. For more details contact nia@mgsg.cymru
Cwtsh Natur:
There will be an opportunity to socialise, create, chat, do a bit of gardening and enjoy a warm cuppa and cake at the Cwtsh Natur sessions held at Yr Ardd, Pont Tyweli from 10am to 12pm on the 19th of February, the 9th of March, the 13th of April and the 11th of May. Sŵn Sir Gâr:
The new Sŵn Sir Gâr (Carmarthenshire Noise) competition will be run between the Mentrau Iaith and the Carmarthenshire Welsh Development Team this year. Bands or young artists of secondary age, whether they are new or already established bands are asked to record a song and send it to nia@mgsg.cymru by the 21st of February. The successful artist will win a composition workshop with Mei Gwynedd and a gig with Dros Dro. For more details or if you have any questions contact nia@mgsg.cymru
