Mid and West MS Helen Mary Jones has supported the continued Coronavirus restrictions, but she has expressed concerns over the availability of vaccines for front line Welsh NHS workers in Hywel Dda University Health Board.
Helen Mary Jones MS, Plaid Cymru Shadow Minister for the Economy, Transport and Tackling Poverty said:
“While the restrictions on our ability to be with those we love over the holiday season is incredibly tough, the situation is incredibly serious. Our national health service is at breaking point, and infections are still rising. With health and care workers and care home residents beginning to be vaccinated, there is light at the end of the tunnel. But for now we must all protect each other by staying at home and avoiding contact. Now is the time to take care of each other, and look forward to a better year in 2021.
“Some constituents in Llanelli and Carmarthen have raised concerns with me with regard to whether or not vaccines provided for health service staff are all being used to vaccinate the front line workers who need the vaccines most. It has been alleged that some vaccines have gone to management or administration staff.
“I have raised this with Hywel Dda University Health Board bosses, and they have assured me that they are doing all they can to prevent this. I am calling on the Welsh Government will take steps nationally to support the Local Health Board to ensure that the vaccines go where they are most needed.”
