Canolfan Pentre Awel wins major prize at the RICS Awards Wales Ceremony
The winners of the RICS Awards 2026 in Wales have been revealed and some truly impressive recent building projects are on the list.
The projects went head-to-head at a ceremony in Cardiff where Canolfan Pentre Awel – a pioneering health and wellbeing innovation campus in Llanelli – was named winner of the community benefit project category.
This project covers the design and construction of a 20,000m2 building (Canolfan) and associated landscaping, public realm and transport infrastructure.
This is the first phase of the Pentre Awel initiative in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, forming a key project within the Swansea Bay City Deal portfolio and is designed to support people to lead active and healthier lives for longer.
Canolfan is home to a unique leisure offer, and community health care services, together with business and education opportunities.
Canolfan is a Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) led development in partnership with HDdUHB, Cardiff University, Swansea University, University of Wales Trinity Saint David and Coleg Sir Gâr.
The RICS UK Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure, recognising outstanding achievement, teamwork and companies. The winning projects at each of the regional awards ceremonies will go on to represent their region at the UK Grand Final on Thursday 22nd October.
The full list of winning projects in Wales are:
- Y Storfa, Swansea Hub – Project of the Year and Public Sector project
- Canolfan Pentre Awel, Llanelli – Community Benefit project
- Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil – Refurbishment/Revitalisation project
- Sker House, Porthcawl – Heritage project
Caerphilly Castle Regeneration Project was also highly commended in the heritage category.
The event was held at The Parkgate Hotel on Wednesday 8th July.

“This year we received over 300 entries across all twelve of the RICS regions.
“The Awards are hugely important. They help demonstrate the positive impact that surveyors, as well as buildings, have on individuals and communities. They promote the role of surveying in making those projects a reality.”
