Employment in Wales has risen in the last quarter according to today’s Key Economic Stats.

As of March 31st, the employment rate in Wales is 73.7% – up 1.1% on the quarter, and 1.3% on the year.

However, there was a 0.3% rise in unemployment over the period.

Economic inactivity in Wales is lower than both Northern Ireland and Scotland; at 22.4% in Wales (1.4% down on the quarter), and 27.7% in Northern Ireland.

Shadow Economy Secretary, Russell George, said:

“Conservatives in government have created 2.9 million jobs since 2010 and have secured record levels of employment across the UK.

“Rising employment in Wales is a sign that the strong and stable leadership of Theresa May is working, and delivering huge investment opportunities for the country.

“It is essential now that we have a UK Government which can drive forward Wales’ interests and keep employment rates stable.”
