• Millions are set to see their state pension rise by up to £470
• Labour’s commitment to the state pension triple lock, the basic and new state pension rose by 4.1% on 6 April
• The triple lock is expected to deliver around £1,900 for pensioners over the course of this parliament
Around 20,000 pensioners in Llanelli will receive a pay boost of up to £470 from Sunday 6 April. This comes after the government confirmed a 4.1% increase in the state pension for 2025/26.
Llanelli MP, Dame Nia Griffith has welcomed the news, highlighting how the government’s commitment to the triple lock has delivered this extra cash for pensioners and is set to deliver around £1,900 over the course of this parliament.
The UK Labour Government is committed to the pensions triple lock, which guarantees that the state pension goes up each year by the highest of 2.5%, inflation, or earnings growth, for the whole of the parliament – at a cost of £30bn.
This news comes as the government continues the biggest ever drive to ensure those eligible for Pension Credit are receiving it, resulting in an 81% increase in claims. Nearly fifty thousand extra pensioners are receiving Pension Credit following the campaign to boost uptake, and DWP has now processed a record number of claims. Pension Credit is worth on average £4,300 a year and also unlocks support including help with Housing Costs, Council Tax and free television licenses. 1.3 million households in England and Wales will also still continue to receive up to £300 in Winter Fuel Payments.
Dame Nia Griffith MP said:
“This additional boost to state pensions will be very welcome news for thousands of pensioners here in Llanelli, putting up to £470 extra in their pocket this year. This UK Labour Government is passionately committed to delivering for our pensioners – ensuring their financial stability through the triple lock, fixing our public services that many older people rely upon, and targeting support towards those who need it most.’

What a load of rubbish. We will be paying tax on our pensions, also no winter fuel allowance,
Ken Ward spot on pal
It would have been the same if the Tories had been in power, but we would have got the winter fuel allowance, she is talking out of her backside

Funny how they’re going up just before local elections isn’t it.

Just who do they think they are kidding. No help with fuel. Fuel up water up council tax up food up Just like Reeves they can’t do their sums. And Nia has nothing to do with pension rates it is decided by government. Says £470 better off Bills are rising by more than £470 a year. And let’s not forget Nia voted for the fuel allowance cut.
What’s her photo being shown for, she’s not giving it to us personally, and does she know we are not gaining a penny, because with the rises of food prices and all other household bills we are actually losing. Time for her to retire now, she’s done nothing for us
