Tyisha Foodbank secures £10k Awards for All Covid-19 crisis grant.
Volunteers at Tyisha Foodbank at Tyisha Positive Action Group have been boosted by news that their efforts to help people through the worst effects of the Covid-19 outbreak will now be supported by £10k worth of funding from National Lottery’s Awards for All.
Set up by the two County Councillors for the Tyisha ward, Suzy Curry and Andre McPherson, the community based foodbank in Llanelli caters for vulnerable people in the town and rural areas and has seen a surge in demand for their services due to the pandemic. The charity has already provided tens of thousands of meals for local residents in recent months as well as assisting those who require further advice and support on issues including housing and benefits.
Llanelli MP, NIA GRIFFITH, Chairperson and regular volunteer at the foodbank, welcomed the additional funding:
“More and more people and their families are feeling the effects of Covid-19 in Llanelli not just on their health and well being but also on their pockets. The economic damage is starting to be keenly felt with jobs and livelihoods at risk making it a struggle for some to provide the basics for their families that most of us take for granted.”
