Dear editor

Carmarthenshire new recycling scheme cost, £25.4 million.

After days of studying the literature, sorting the bags, separating the see through plastic from the surrounding packaging, washing it and generally getting stressed, I was stuck in a road in Carmarthen yesterday for 15 minutes and Kidwelly this morning for 10 minutes….chaos, buses, trucks and people trying get to work and only getting frustrated, naturally. The cause was the new recycling lorries and time taken to process the separate bags.

So, I managed to speak to stressed new staff in the expensive new lorries and commented that Kidwelly was gridlock on the school run for 10 minutes. One of them said “that’s nothing, we jammed a road in Carmarthen yesterday morning for 40 minutes.”

Question.
Did we accept this change? Did we agree to separate all rubbish and wash it perfectly?
How about disabled and partially sighted people? Or those with learning or cognitive disabilities?
Did we accept to store these bags – no doubt, in time with dog and other animal pee, rain, bird poo etc on?  Rats are a consideration too!

Will the Council build us storage sheds or extensions for the bags. I’m genuinely concerned at what we’re bringing back into the house after being out all night, notwithstanding the rain.

And then there’s the wind blowing them everywhere……road safety for all?
Were we consulted? No.

Is it an option tostop paying Council Tax as the contract between us is broken.
And that’s not withstanding the lack of maintenance, cutting or service and potholes.
I’ll check what the new recycling plan cost.

“The total cost for the new separated recycling service in Carmarthenshire is £25.4 million. This includes £15.5 million provided by the Welsh Government and £9.9 million contributed by the local council.

These funds cover the procurement of new specialist collection vehicles and the supply of reusable sacks and containers for residents.”

I was sent “My 85yr old dad pays full council tax (-25%) is in a right mess with these bags what a nightmare, he has  all the bags over his kitchen table, he has no were to store them, we can’t put them out side in case he falls outside while putting rubbish into them ..his very unsteady, walks with  two sticks, wears a pendant alarm  because of the falls risks but the council expects him  to carry these bags that need 2hands to carry, meaning he can’t even hold a stick or grab rail to his door (obviously im going up to put them out for him thats 16miles in my car to put them out but thats no the point) yet again no consideration has been take for elderly or disabled,  my dads getting so confused with it all im tempted to take them away & just put a black bag into his bin for everything ..I”m furious 😠 😡”

And I am a full time carer for my 92yo father with dementia who simply couldn’t cope. Equality Act Challenge maybe?
