As schools prepare to break up for the summer, Carmarthenshire County Council is supporting families with a vibrant programme of events, activities, and entertainment across the county.

In Pendine, families can discover Babs at the state-of-the-art Museum of Land Speed, explore the thrilling world of speed and science, and uncover the stories behind the remarkable people and vehicles that set records along Pendine’s iconic seven-mile stretch of golden sands. Afterwards, enjoy a round at the exciting new Caban Crazy Golf a colourful 12-hole adventure course that’s already proving a hit with visitors.
Throughout the summer, the County Council’s Actif Leisure Centres are stepping up to offer a wide range of activities to help families stay active and entertained. From pool inflatables, aqua boards, and Nerf battles to themed activity days and creative sessions, there’s no shortage of things to do. The popular Actif Club holiday club is also back, offering both half-day and full-day options, great for working parents. As part of the Council’s commitment to accessible activities, free swimming sessions for under-16s will be available on selected weekends at Canolfan Pentre Awel, Carmarthen, Amman Valley and Llandovery Leisure Centres.
Carmarthenshire libraries are hosting a wide range of free, hands-on activities throughout the summer, from storytime and LEGO play to crafts and coding clubs offering fun, learning and creativity for children of all ages. The popular Summer Reading Challenge also returns from 4 July, with this year’s theme Read the Beat, encouraging children to discover stories through music, rhythm and creativity
Theatrau Sir Gâr has an exciting programme across the Lyric, Glowyr, and Ffwrnes theatres this summer, featuring family shows, live music, comedy, and musicals. Highlights include the explosive and fun-filled Rude Science at the Lyric on 25 July, the swashbuckling Pirates! The Penzance Musical at Ffwrnes from 30 July to 2 August, and the vibrant Blas Food Festival on 1 August celebrating the best of Welsh food and craft. Free Open Doors family days will also take place at each venue, offering crafts, music, drama, and behind-the-scenes experiences with no booking required.
Carmarthenshire offers fantastic traffic-free cycling opportunities, giving families a safe, accessible and enjoyable way to explore the county’s coast and countryside. Routes such as Sustrans 4, 437 and 47, along with the new Tywi Valley Path, provide scenic, family-friendly rides through some of Carmarthenshire’s most beautiful landscapes.
Enjoy a picnic on one of Carmarthenshire’s award-winning beaches Cefn Sidan, Pendine, or Llansteffan or explore the dramatic ruins of Carreg Cennen, Dinefwr, and Kidwelly Castles for a taste of history and adventure.
