Hywel Dda University Health Board is calling on local gardening enthusiasts to volunteer their skills in helping to maintain two new therapeutic gardens at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.
The new gardens, whose creation has been supported by a recent fundraising appeal, will serve Mynydd Mawr ward, a 15-bed rehabilitation unit, and Bryngolau ward, a 15-bed older adult mental health unit.
The gardens are due to be opened in April 2026, and will provide safe, joyful spaces where patients can enjoy fresh air, gentle exercise, and the restorative benefits of nature. They will also offer a peaceful environment for staff and visitors.
“These gardens will make a huge difference to the wellbeing and recovery of our patients,” said Gareth Phillips, Senior Charge Nurse on Mynydd Mawr ward. “Having volunteers to help maintain them ensures they remain vibrant and welcoming spaces for everyone.”
Lauren Hughes, Ward Manager at Bryngolau ward, added: “The new gardens have received such amazing support from our local communities, and we hope this will continue with our gardening volunteers who will really support wellbeing on the wards.”
Hywel Dda is seeking volunteers with gardening experience and good working knowledge of seasonal garden maintenance.
