A Hywel Dda healthcare team is raising money for those living with respiratory illnesses across west Wales by taking on multiple climbing challenges.

Staff members from Prince Philip Hospital’s Respiratory Department are fundraising for their service and raising awareness of respiratory illnesses by doing various activities, including hiking Welsh mountains and running.

The team has already conquered Pen y Fan and completed the Llanelli 10k event. Next on their list is to climb Corn Du, Cribyn and Fan y Big.

The healthcare professionals work for the Respiratory Department within Hywel Dda University Health Board and support patients living with asthma, COPD and other respiratory conditions.

Their aim is to raise funds for the department by taking on multiple challenges.

Kelly Diana, Respiratory Nurse, said: “We’re raising funds by doing various activities such as climbing Corn Du, Pen Y Fan, Cribyn, Fan Y Big and running to enhance our department’s resources – from additional equipment and patient education materials to innovative projects that help people breathe easier and live healthier lives.

“Every donation, big or small, directly contributes to improving patient care and supporting our hardworking team in continuing this essential work.”

She added: “Together, we can make a real difference for those living with respiratory illnesses across West Wales. Thank you for helping us help others – one breath at a time.”

Claire Rumble, Fundraising Officer for Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “Thank you to everyone from the Respiratory Department who has taken on these fantastic challenges! We can’t wait to hear the outcome of each challenge.

“We are very grateful for every donation we receive, no matter how small or large. The charitable donations we receive don’t replace NHS funding. They are used to provide items and activities above and beyond core NHS expenditure.”
