Cefin Campbell, Nerys Evans and Adam Price, Plaid Cymru Members of Senedd for the Sir Gaerfyrddin (Carmarthenshire) constituency, have welcomed the recent announcement by the Plaid Cymru Welsh Government that it will establish a new bus service from Carmarthen to Bangor, which will start in the Autumn.
This is one of the first steps in the Government and Transport for Wales’ vision for the ‘T Network’, where public transport systems will be fully integrated across Wales. The service was also a promise in Plaid Cymru’s plan for their first 100 days in government.
It is expected that the service from Carmarthen to Bangor, which will stop at Aberaeron, Aberystwyth, Machynlleth, Dolgellau, Porthmadog and Caernarfon on the way, will save over an hour on the current journey.
The service comes at a cost of £2m for the first year, which includes establishing the route, a booking system and advertising the journey.
In a joint statement, the Plaid Cymru Members of Senedd for Sir Gaerfyrddin said:
“The new bus service from Carmarthen to Bangor will be an important way that this government will strengthen links between south and north Wales, and bring communities together.
“Services like this are key for growth in the west Wales economy, with easier transport from south to north facilitating business developments, boosting the tourism sector and opening more doors for jobs across the west. Carmarthenshire has so much to offer – from the ancient castles of Dyffryn Tywi to the beautiful coastline of Llanelli – we are confident that this service will introduce a wider audience to some of our county’s treasures.
“Unlike the previous government under the Labour Party, which underinvested in our communities in West Wales, this Plaid Cymru government is already working on ensuring that enough money is spent on our communities here. This bus service is a testament to this.”
The funding for this bus service has been allocated as part of the Welsh Government’s First Supplementary Budget for the 2026-27 financial year, to be debated and voted on in the Senedd on 14 July.
