Cefin Campbell, Plaid Cymru Member of the Senedd for Mid & West Wales, has paid tribute to former Llanelli Mayor, Dyfrig Thomas, following his death on Sunday 1st January 2022.
Commenting, Cefin Campbell MS said:
“It is with sadness that the news comes of the death of Dyfrig Thomas, former Mayor of Llanelli. For many of us, Siop y Werin was the centre of Welsh life in Llanelli for many years and Dyfrig was one of the pillars of the town’s Welshness as promoting the language and the interests of Wales was so close to his heart. He was one of the main founders of the Menter Iaith in the town back at the beginning of the 90s, a relentless campaigner for Welsh language education and one of the stalwarts of Plaid Cymru in the area.
He was a Plaid Cymru Town and County Councillor for many years and gained respect from all political parties for his friendly personality and his fairness towards people. He will be fondly remembered and greatly appreciated for his tireless efforts to promote the cause of Wales and the Welsh language in the town over a long period of time.”
